Raleigh, NC -- In conjunction with the Town of Cary and WakeMed-Cary, the Cary Rotary Club will present the 20th Annual WakeMed Cary Distance Festival on May 4. The ninth event in the Series, the Distance Festival includes both a 5K and 10k. However, to receive Grand-Prix points, you must run the 5K. The Festival will be held at Waverly Place in Cary. Cary, NC -- The tenth and final race in this year’s Second Empire Grand-Prix Spring Series is the North Carolina Roadrunners Club Invitational 10K. Now in its 15th year, the 10K will be held in conjunction with a half marathon, however, the 10K is the race you must compete in to receive Grand-Prix points. The race uses the roads, trails, and greenways of Cary and Umstead State Park. Due to construction on Old Reedy Creek Road, the start and finish lines have been adjusted somewhat. As for the Run for the Heroes 5K itself, the day kicks off with a memorial service to celebrate the lives of those officer who have passed; that is followed immediately by the 5k. Next up is the McGruff Crime
Dog Kids Race, which is scheduled for 10 am.
Stick around after the race for food and a chance to win raffle prizes at Napper Tandy’s on 120 N. West St. in Raleigh. The post-race party lasts from 11 am until 1 pm. Lunch is on the house for race participants and race volunteers. For all others, the cover charge is $5.
